If your doctor has recommended you wear a knee brace then you should wear it.  It is important to understand what a knee brace is and how it will help your knee.

In most cases, a knee brace is used as support when an injury has occurred to the knee.  A brace may be used in serious accidents or injuries, but is also recommended for use if you play sports.  A knee brace is beneficial in preventing any type of injury to the knee.  There are circumstances where the doctor may recommend a knee brace for ankle injuries also.

Knee braces are made from all sorts of materials.  Some of the lower end knee braces for protection are often made of elastic materials used to provide support for the knee cap and the ligaments around the knee.  Some of the heavier knee braces are usually for people who have already had trauma to the knee and they are often made from plastic and metal.  They will have straps to fasten around the knee and they may span from the mid thigh down to the mid shin area on the leg.  Knee braces can also come in different colors.

The primary purpose of a knee brace is to assist with walking on your knee after a knee injury or an accident.  It is also used for protection in some cases.  A brace will not work properly if it is not fastened correctly.  The hinge should be fastened correctly allowing the knee to bend properly.  If the brace is not positioned on the knee the right way then it may cause pain or you might not be able to walk freely with it on.

If your doctor has recommended a donjoy knee brace or any type of knee brace then you should wear it.  You should properly fasten the brace to ensure it provides the protection needed.
