Many choose to have multiple processes done on their hair to accomplish a desired color and texture.  More than one process is possible, but using a natural hair relaxer is recommended to relax hair if it has had other chemical processes to avoid damage and breakage.

The desire to straighten or relax hair may come after hair has already had multiple processes.  Is it possible to use a method to relax hair after it has already been colored or straightened with a chemical process?  Yes it is; however, a natural hair relaxer should always be used.  Hair relaxers with natural ingredients are much safer for hair, and will not cause the damage and breakage that a chemical hair relaxer would cause.

Hair coloring is a common process that many women choose to have done for all types and textures of hair, including Caucasian and African American hair.  The desired color level is achieved, and a natural hair relaxer may then be used.  Relax hair naturally, and the processed hair color will not be removed or changed.  It will not fade, nor will it become an undesirable hue of green or yellow.  It may be a good idea to wait a week or two in between processes.

How about if a chemical relaxer or straightener has already been used?  Yes, a natural hair relaxer may be used after hair has been treated with another product; however, if the damage from a chemical relaxer is extensive, and has made the hair extremely weak, it is better to wait for new hair growth.  Relax hair with a natural ingredient based product, and hair will soften and hydrate in addition to the hair relaxing.

Chemical straightening methods using lye, or sodium hydroxide, will damage hair and can even burn the skin.  Lye has been used for centuries to combat unruly hair, but it typically has negative results.  Natural hair straighteners are always a better choice to avoid the damage, and allow for multiple processes to the hair without harm.
