| One of the great on-going debates in the field of Psychology centers around what happens to those habits that no longer control us because we were able to reverse or replace them. I subscribe to the position of Gary Craig, founder of the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). He proposes that the old habits never depart once they have entered the subconscious mind. They kind of fade into the background and become less active or inactive. Given the opportunity, however, they will fully re-assert themselves and derail your attempts at mastering your mind power just as a garden will be re-claimed by useless weeds, grasses, and shrubs if not frequently cultivated. I agree with the position of Mr. Craig. Based on the preponderance of information coming from numerous hypnosis experiments, especially those experiments in the area of age regression, I believe the evidence is clear. In some instances, hypnotists have succeeded in regressing patients to a time when they were still in the womb, and the hypnotists were able to elicit clear memories of that time from the patients. Please remember that even though this and other articles may point to the negative side of habits, there are many habits that are extremely helpful to you. We all have a multitude of them to which we have become slaves. Since that is the case, why not follow the advice of Og Mandino (author of The Greatest Salesman In The World), if we are going to be slave to habits, commit to forming good habits and become their slave! Good habits are those that support you in your efforts to be, do, and have what you desire. Even though you may have many habits that do not serve you well, the good news is habits can be changed or replaced! Even the most recalcitrant habit cannot resist the power of a commitment to remove it from its control over your behavior and your life. One of the best ways to weaken the power of unwanted habits is stop spending so much time living in the past. You tend to give them your emotional energy and strengthen them when you mentally re-live past events over and over in which the various habits were involved. I know that it might seem unfair to you that you have to put so much work into changing habitual behavior that you had very little to do with (consciously) developing, but those are the cards you and 95% of the population have been dealt. The questions I put before you is: What are you now going to do about your situation? Are you going to do nothing and continue to have the same kinds of life experiences day after day, year after year, or are you going to make a commitment to change the habits that need to be changed in order to experience more of what you want from life? This I know for sure. You can claim or re-claim control of your own mind power. You are the most miraculous of all living beings on earth. You are the owner of a mind that is so stupendous, that as you truly begin mastering your mind power and consciously using it, there is no dream that you can dream that you cannot achieve.

The Greeks so worshipped memory that they made a goddess out of her — Mnemosyne. It was her name from which was derived the current word mnemonics, used to describe memory techniques such as those you are about to learn. In Greek and Roman times, senators would learn these techniques in order to impress other politicians and the public with their phenomenal powers of learning and memory. Using these simple but sophisticated methods, the Romans were able to remember, without fault, thousands of items, including statistics...
2. How To Remember Speeches Jokes Books Poems Dramatic Parts And Articles
Speeches The best way to start approaching the memorisation of speeches is to realise that in 90 per cent of cases they do not need to be completely memorised. Realisation of this fact will instantaneously help you overcome most of the major problems experienced by those who approach speech writing and speech making as memory function: 1. The enormous amount of time wasted in preparing a speech for memorisation. The average time taken for the preparation and presentation of a one-hour s...
3. Method for Remembering Names and Faces
Remembering names and faces is one of the most important aspects of our lives, and one of the most difficult. The reason for the difficulty lies in the fact that in most instances the names have no real 'connection' lo the faces. In earlier ages it was exactly the opposite, and the whole system developed for giving people names was based on memory and association: the man you regularly saw covered in white flour with dough all over his hands was Mr. Baker; the man you regularly saw in his own and everyone else's garde...
4. Three Basic Types Of Emotional Upsets
Emotional upsets may be broadly classified under three basic headings: (1) The Neuroses. Less severe, the neuroses may permit a person to go to work daily. But some neuroses are more disabling than others. The neurotic person suffers from "anxiety", a constant feeling of dread and indecision, of being unsettled and distracted. This anxiety may manifest itself in depression, phobias, repetitive thoughts and acts and other such symptoms. (2) The Psychotic....
5. The Nine Advance Warning Signals Of Possible Emotional Upset
Because emotional upset can sneak up on an individual, it is important to heed Nature's warning signals. Here is a list suggested by the National Association for Mental Health. Of course, these can be present in persons who are well, but overworked, tired, or in the midst of a crisis. But if the symptoms keep recurring, they should be brought to the attention of a physician: (1) Belligerence. Walking around continuously with a chip on the shoulder, ready to argue or quarrel at the slightest excuse...
6. Get To Know Someone
My friend Teresa Easler asks her clients to write a list of everything they know about the person they're communicating with, including a list of the things that they can appreciate about that person. After all, the person is someone's child, brother, friend. Think about someone in your company, about your competition, about your customers. What's their background? What's their history? What's important to them? Why are they at this meeting? What motivates them? ...
7. How to Become a Life Long Learner
Learning is a process, not an event. Becoming a life-long learner requires that we do things daily to acquire knowledge and learn new skills. Learning for the sake of learning is less valuable than learning to improve our moral character and become a more effective employee, life partner, and parent. Here are some ideas to help you achieve this. Create the mindset that learning is important. Open your mind and your heart to new experiences. Recognize that you can...
8. Taking Care of Your Mental Health
Wellness is about taking care of yourself. It is an empowered process that recognizes the connection between your mental and physical well-being. Wellness is not a fad. It can require many changes for most of us, but its implementation is a journey requiring one change at a time. As we improve our living habits, we begin to make good habits a way of life rather than a short-term change. Maintain a great attitude. Your outlook will improve if you: Think positive. See ...
9. How to Improve Your Skills Through Training
Increasingly, organizations are looking to their staff members to take responsibility for their own learning and careers. Many organizations are cutting back on sending people to outside workshops, seeing these as more of a perk than an opportunity to build skills. Research shows that people learn very little by sitting in a classroom — and use even less. The most powerful ways of learning are by experiencing the skills and teaching others. These should be key parts of your learning plan. Here are some principles to bear in...
10. How To Increase Mental Performance
Most people believe that there is only a certain limited amount we can do to increase our mental performance. However, this could not be further from the truth. Mental performance can and will increase, if we firstly take the steps to understand how it can do so. One of the keys to increasing mental performance lies in our subconscious minds. This is the mind which is behind our conscious and daily activities. What most people do not realise is that the subconscious mind is always at work, and therefore respecting its proper...
