The bridal party is the most important part of any wedding. Bridesmaids, mothers and fathers of the bride and groom, bestmen, flower girls and ring bearers – they are crucial complements to the bride and groom! Therefore it makes sense that great thought needs to be put into the dressing of the entire bridal party. From dresses and suits to colour and design, it is pertinent for a fashion sense to be engaged.

Must everyone be colour co-ordinated?
Not necessarily. However, it does look nice when everyone in the bridal party is wearing clothes of a similar theme. Photos generally look nicer and neater when a themed style is followed.

What kind of styles work for both bridesmaids and mothers of the bride and groom?
Styles that fit a woman best often depend on the shape and size of that person. Therefore it is usually advised that if a themed style is followed, clothing should be tailor-made. Dresses can be either uniquely designed or a pre-made style can be followed and given to a dressmaker. Tailored dresses are also good when unique touches want to be added to suit each individual bridesmaid and mother.

What are the fabrics available for bridal wear?
Silk and chiffon are the most common. It is important to make sure that the fabric used for the dresses are 100% natural. The pureness of the material will affect the comfort and look of the dress.

Do fabrics play an important role?
YES. Fabrics are very very important. They can ensure the entire bridal party has a comfortable wedding day and are free to move around. Good, natural fabric flows around the body better and doesn’t create static. Additionally, silk is a good counteract for warmer days.

d’Italia, a designer fabric store in Melbourne, is a leader in bridal wear fabric and design. d’Italia’s silk fabric is imported to Australia directly from Europe. It comes from the same manufacturers who produce for designer labels like Armani, Gucci and Escada. New fabric is imported every season, to ensure that the latest designs are available in store.
d’Italia’s French lace is exclusively from top French lines, and is made-to-order. It comes only in small 4-5m lengths. All products that are beaded are hand-made.
d’Italia is open six days a week, and  is located at 61 Glenferrie Road, Malvern, Victoria. Australian tailor and seamstress services should be booked in advance (especially for wedding couture). More information can be found at: d'Italia Designer Fabric.
