The Internet which was virtually unknown to masses a couple of decades ago has now become the life blood of many economies and societies. This global phenomenon has brought the human kind closer than ever before. Ranging from information websites to novel concepts of social networking, Internet has become a way of life for many people. According to Internetworldstats.com only 16 million people used the Internet in 1995, where as today over 1200 million surf the cyber space which amounts to nearly 20% of the world population. The growth of the Internet has created a whole new dimension in doing business as well. The speed of information and the convenience has made online a promising venture for many markets. In travel industry around a decade ago, travel agents had a better say when it came to selling travel solutions than its original providers such as airlines and hotels etc. But today the increased use of online travel has made it easy for the consumer to plan and book their travel needs easily on their own over the Internet. Hotels, airlines and other travel service providers are able to directly get in touch with customers through the Internet. Online travel portals and websites also have an upper hand over conventional travel agents on costs as well. The traditional travel agent requires more manpower and huge investments to expand its business where as an online portal can get in touch with the whole world through a single domain purchase. However, the intense competition among online travel portals and various hospitality websites have reduced intermediary commission rates thus offering far more economic value to online transactions. Internet research firm predicts that by 2009 roughly one third of all U.S travel revenues will be handled via Internet. Other parts of the world such as Europe and emerging giants such as India and China will also contribute heavily to the growth of online travel industry. With the growing number of Internet users and the boom in travel industry in many emerging economies will continue to contribute to the growth of online travel industry in coming years. Sellability of Content Compelling Forms If we wanted to merge the sentiments from observers in Europe and the United States into one sentence, it would sound like this: “To charge a fee for content, you need new products with entirely new content that is truly compelling, and that means things people have never seen before, never expected, or never assumed would be free.” The word “compelling” came up much more frequently in our discussions than the word ...

3. Positive Influences of E commerce for Businesses
Electronic Commerce or e-commerce is the exchange and processing of business transaction information using computers connected through a network. E-commerce does have unique advantages for businesses. It allows a shop, a showroom or an office to open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It also means that time zones are not a problem. A Web site can bring a prospect from the point of advertising and information directly to the point of sale, seamlessly, without involving any other medium. E-commerce...
4. The Basic E Business Models
The emerging e-business market affords companies of all sizes and types the opportunity to leverage their existing assets, employees, technology infrastructure, and information to gain or maintain marketshare. For example, in the telecommunications industry, service, rather than technology, is now the key differentiator. With lower barriers to entry, new competitors are rapidly entering the market offering new services, such as online bill presentment and payment, and leveraging their unique digital assets. Information t...

7. FFA (Free For All) Sites: Do They Work (q)
In the "old" days of the Web (2-3 years back ), FFAs were effective in generating traffic to many sites. FFAs are in effect lists of brief classified-type ads with a link to the submitting site. Submit a first class ad (most are not), and at least some hits would be generated. In general, a new submission goes to the top of the list or category, as the oldest listing is deleted. This plan was effective, for finding things on the Web was not as easy then as it is now. So many surfers had one or two FFAs bookmarked. W...
8. How to plan the way to success with your online business
Building a new business or growing one that exists takes lots and lots of hours and lots and lots of hard work. Many of the wannabe and newbie webmasters I have met do not seem to understand this. Until they do, there isn't even a chance of success. Back in the late seventies and early eighties, I got my first close look at small business in action. I was consulting and developing software for mini-computers, which led me into the business world I had previously viewed only from the outside. I had always admired those w...
9. Online business ~ Who do you want to sell to (q)
Those with an eye toward building a successful business in cyberspace often waste a good deal of time searching for the ideal product. One that will sell almost without effort. And generate great profits into the foreseeable future. The problem is, no such product exists. The Wrong Question One who asks, "What is the best product to sell?" has missed the whole side of the barn. Even if rephrased to, "best kind of product," it still is not sufficiently definitive. Among reasonable starting points, he...
10. Does your site tell the truth
Good copywriters are among the best paid people in the work force. Most webmasters are not in this group. Yet we need to sell. Should we emulate good copywriters? That is, should we do what they do to the best of our ability? While we must follow proven advertising and copywriting principles, most of us would be better served taking a different route. I've been writing ever since I can remember. All sorts of stuff. And I've had success with most everything I've written. One standout exception: Copywriting. I have never writte...
